“After the war, what remains in our heart is the memory and a great sense of honour to served well our country.During the war we used to carry guns, now we can give our contribution to the country’s develop”

Vietnam(2015). 50years ago began the war against USA. 40years ago with the conquest of Saigon the North Vietnamese Army won the war and thousands of veterans came back to their villages trying to start a new life. Today, just in Huè (Central Vietnam) that was one of the more hitted parts of the country by the fighting, close to the DMZ zone, there were settled 25000 veterans, 4000 who are invalid and 2000 victims of the Agent Orange. The problems they have to solve were several like how to build a new life with their families. Infact many Veterans didn’t get married at that time. But the entire community welcomed they as a heroes in parti- cular the people of the North Vietnam, while in the south was different after the long presence of the Ameri- can Army on the territory. Veteran’s Families of the south were scared of the revenges but after some years things changed and the armony was established again. After 40 years, today there are no longer distances and they live all together. Another problem was how to pass the social consequences of the war(destruction of the territory, villages, streets, structures),mental and also economic cause the government stopped after the war to help them so, they’ll start to earn money by themselves.
They are grouped in Vietnam Veterans Associations (VVA) divided in many levels of importance: Provincial level, City/district level, Ward/ commune level that include Veterans of the French war, the oldiest, who are more than 80 years old and they fought both the wars and lived the aftermath and the rebuilt period, vete- rans of the American War (a larger group) and those who served after the reunification of 1975.
During their service the veterans had a code of life: “FIGHT FOR PEOPLE, DIE FOR PEOPLE”
